Kuwait

Kuwait, officially known as the State of Kuwait, is a sovereign country located in the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. It shares borders with Iraq to the north and Saudi Arabia to the south, and has a coastline along the Arabian Gulf. The capital city is Kuwait City, which serves as the political, cultural, and economic center of the country.

Accreditation Body ISO 17011

In Kuwait, the Public Authority for Industry (PAI) has established a dedicated Accreditation Department responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing accreditation activities within the country. This department operates as the national focal point for conformity assessment matters, including laboratory, inspection, and certification accreditation functions, and works to enhance confidence in the competence of conformity assessment bodies.

Although there is not yet an internationally recognized national accreditation body formally registered with global multilateral recognition arrangements International body, the Accreditation Department within PAI serves the role of a national accreditation system under the Kuwait National Accreditation System (KNAS). KNAS provides accreditation services for conformity assessment bodies according to international requirements and regional cooperation frameworks such as the Arab Regional Accreditation Cooperation (ARAC).

ISO/IEC 17011 — Conformity assessment — Requirements for accreditation bodies accrediting conformity assessment bodies — specifies the principles of competence, impartiality, and consistent operation that an accreditation body must meet when accrediting laboratories, inspection bodies, certification bodies, and other conformity assessment organizations. While Kuwait’s accreditation system is still developing, PAI’s Accreditation Department coordinates accreditation activities and works toward aligning with international standards to support the quality infrastructure of the country.

In the State of Kuwait, inspection bodies operate under the national quality infrastructure framework overseen by the Public Authority for Industry (PAI) through the Kuwait National Accreditation System (KNAS).
