Liberia

Liberia is a West African country bordered by Sierra Leone, Guinea, Côte d’Ivoire, and the Atlantic Ocean. Its capital and largest city is Monrovia. Founded in the 19th century, Liberia is one of Africa’s oldest republics and a member of the United Nations (UN), African Union (AU), and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Liberia’s economy is driven primarily by natural resources, including mining (iron ore and gold), agriculture (rubber, palm oil, cocoa), forestry, and maritime services. In recent years, the country has worked toward strengthening its regulatory systems and national quality infrastructure to support trade, investment, and industrial development.

Quality Infrastructure in Liberia

Liberia continues to develop its national framework for:

  • Standardization
  • Metrology
  • Accreditation
  • Inspection
  • Certification
  • Testing and laboratory services

At present, Liberia does not have a fully established independent national accreditation body operating under ISO/IEC 17011. Therefore, conformity assessment bodies within Liberia typically seek accreditation from recognized regional or international accreditation bodies to ensure international recognition of their services.
